Rangitaranga-Movie Review

Rangitaranga

I am writing this review after the 50th day completion of the movie though I watched the movie on July 18th. What’s the meaning of this word “Rangi Taranga”, a color full wave can be the meaning but actually there is no such word called Rangi in Kannada, actual word is “Rangu” for “color”. May be the director wanted to have a freshness in the name too along with  new actors fresh music and lyrics.

A neatly woven story with mind-blowing twists and turns with an unpredictable climax. What is this movie about, what’s the genre? No, it is not a horror. It is a thriller, it’s a drama, and it’s a love story.

I was always quoting to my friends about why Kannada movie do not run and generate much revenue. I always said Karnataka as region has been divided into 4 languages apart from Kannada. The Koramangala, Hosur region is dominated by Tamil movies; KR Puram, Kolar, Chinthamani by Telugu movies, to some extent border of South Canara watch Malayalam movies, most of the North Karnataka region watch Hindi and Marathi. Left over regions watch Kannada with a very less share from Bangalore because this is more of a cosmopolitan hub, and the dwellers are mostly from other regions and large group of Kannadigas would not want to watch their own language movie. But my theory has been proved wrong by Mr.Anup.

It has been quite a while that a good Kannada movie has been made with wonderful lyrics and music. It has made Rs.20 crore collection in 50 days in Karnataka alone in the limited slots allotted in the multiplexes. So what has made the movie a success? Why did Hindi film maker Ashutosh Gowarikar take the rights of movie to be remade in Hindi? Why did Telugu super star Allu Arjun watch this movie? What is so special about this movie? How did it survive the competition of Bahubali and Bhajarangi bhaijaan and still running packed houses? Cost per ticket is 250 Rs in Mantri mall cinema on a Saturday, that too after 50 days. My friends would not mind paying this much amount watching other language movies but not for a Kannada movie, then why are they now shelling out this much amount?

There is a newness in how the movie has been narrated not usually Kannada movies are told this way. The dialogues have been written in an excellent way. Cinematography has been used very nicely which shows the richness of the nature, a good camera work never goes unnoticed by cinema lovers. The lyrics have deep meaning unlike the present trend, there is a poetry in each song. Music is awesome matching the crispiness of story. I personally loved the acting of Avanthika, Nirup though there is a room to improvise and finally Saikumar has done a great job.

Apart from the fantastic story, lyrics, music, direction and screenplay, credit goes to the director Mr.Anup Bhandari a marketing genius who has presented the movie in a good package. He has created a positive hype in social media which reached lakhs of Kannadigas who did not go to theatres to watch Kannada movie from a long time. So he has proved and brought a new wave in Gandhinagar, that a good movie can be made in limited budget and if presented in a right way it can create history.

Lastly, he has used the social media and his personal networking to a great extent to reach NRI s as well. What a genius he is? Can we see more movies from him in the coming days? Will the industry allow him to grow?
